Northern Chamber Orchestra return to the live stage to close its 2020-21 season

The Northern Chamber Orchestra will be joined by cellist and baritone Matthew Sharp to play works by Tchaikovsky and Mozart on Saturday 22 May (5.30pm and 8.00pm).

Matthew Sharp is an award-winning, internationally recognised cellist, baritone, director, recording artist and educator. He is the NCO’s Artist in Association and has previously performed with Opera North, Manchester Camerata, and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The concert includes Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme and Mozart’s Madamina from Don Giovanni, and socially distanced tickets for the concerts, along with online streaming passes, are available now from www.ncorch.co.uk.

Matthew has worked with cultural leaders across music and the arts: in classical music, Sir John Tavener, Errollyn Wallen CBE; in jazz, Mike Westbrook, Django Bates; in world music, Sameer Rao, Sabreen; in theatre, Caryl Churchill, Phyllida Lloyd, Emma Rice, Simon McBurney; in literature, Carol Ann Duffy, Sir Andrew Motion; in dance, Kate Flatt, Will Tuckett; in art & design, Dave McKean, Bunny Christie. As a solo performer, he has appeared globally from the Sydney Opera House to Wigmore Hall, Glastonbury to Glyndebourne, Royal Festival Hall to the Knitting Factory, and recorded for Sony, Decca, EMI, Naxos, Avie. As an educator, he has taught and learned from MA students at Juilliard to street children on the banks of the Sabarmati River. He has recently completed an education project with the NCO and schools in Stockport, which was delivered remotely from his home in France.

Following a grant from the Cultural Recovery Fund, the Northern Chamber Orchestra have plans in the pipeline for a full season of concerts in Manchester and Macclesfield beginning in September 2021, as well as extended outreach work across the North of England. Further details will be announced in due course, and tickets will be on sale from July.
