Full season of concerts announced by Northern Chamber Orchestra between September 2021 and May 2022 

The Northern Chamber Orchestra has announced details of its stunning 2021-22 season, which sees performances across the North West along with streaming options. Tickets are on sale from Monday 19th July. 

The orchestra is the oldest professional chamber ensemble in the North West, and has today announced its return to the live stage. Taking in venues in Manchester and Cheshire, including a new series for the NCO at Storyhouse in Chester, the season features a host of international classical music stars. Joining the NCO for its opening concert is pianist Steven Osborne, who plays Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4, and the orchestra is also joined by other guest soloists including principal oboe of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra John Roberts and principal horn of the BBC Philharmonic, Ben Hulme. Violinist Chloë Hanslip, guitarist Craig Ogden and cellist Raphael Wallfisch make up the stellar guest soloist line up.

The Northern Chamber Orchestra will this year be spreading its wings with two concerts at Storyhouse in Chester and two at Christ Church in West Didsbury. These concerts are supported by a grant of £44,064 from Arts Council England, awarded in April 2021 during the COVID 19 pandemic, which will also allow the four concerts at The Stoller Hall in Manchester to be streamed to audiences at home and in care homes. December 2021 also sees the return of the incredibly successful Christmas Concert at Tatton Park, this year with an additional matinee concert.

Artistic Director of the NCO, Nicholas Ward, said “We are presenting this season as an expression of hope – that once again people will gather together to hear live performances of great music played by excellent musicians and some great soloists. The global pandemic has caused so much hardship and misery. Musicians have been frustrated at being unable to give concerts; some have left the profession, others have suffered from loss of confidence, an absolute necessity when performing in public. With help from the Arts Council and all our loyal supporters we have put together a concert series to stimulate, soothe, move and entertain.”
