Holst’s Sextet was rediscovered in the British Library around 100 years after it was written, bringing a forgotten early work back into the repertoire. - Two young composers, two very different afterlives
Both works were written when their composers were still in their twenties. But while Beethoven’s Septet became an instant favourite, Holst’s Sextet had to wait generations to be heard again. - Chamber music with plenty of personality
With winds and strings playing side by side, both works are full of lively exchanges, warmth and the easy-going spirit of musicians making music together.
