Northern Chamber Orchestra’s Wind Section to Enchant Audiences with Strauss and More

The Northern Chamber Orchestra’s (NCO) wind section is poised to cast a spellbinding musical aura across three distinguished venues this January. Following the resounding success of their previous season, the wind principals of NCO are set to mesmerise audiences at Hulme Hall in Port Sunlight, St Michael’s Church in Macclesfield, and Storyhouse in Chester on Friday 19 January at 7.30pm, Saturday 20 January at 7.30pm, and Sunday 21 January at 3.00pm, respectively.

This eagerly anticipated concert promises an evening of musical brilliance, spotlighting the works of the iconic Richard Strauss. The programme features Strauss’s Serenade for 13 Wind Instruments, an early masterpiece composed when the maestro was just seventeen. Audiences will be treated to the lyrical and remarkably original essence of Strauss’s youthful innovation. Additionally, the Suite in B flat major, a later and more substantial work, showcases Strauss’s evolution towards his mature orchestral masterpieces, offering a symphonic exploration of his genius.

While Strauss takes centre stage, the concert will also feature compositions by other renowned artists. The delightful and comical Musique pour faire plaisir by Jean Francaix promises to enchant listeners with its playful melodies and memorable dissonances. Adding depth and contrast, Mozart’s Serenade for Winds in C minor brings dramatic flair, characterised by dark-hued, sombre colors, providing a multifaceted musical experience for all attendees.

Under the expert direction of the NCO wind principals, this concert will be an immersive journey through diverse emotions and musical styles, promising an evening that transcends the ordinary boundaries of classical music.

Concert-goers can secure their tickets for an exceptional evening of musical excellence. Tickets for Port Sunlight and Chester are priced at £22.50, while Macclesfield tickets are available at £27 (£17 for under 30s). Moreover, full-time students and Under 18s enjoy free admission to all concerts, emphasising NCO’s commitment to nurturing young talent and fostering a love for classical music.
