Cellist Matthew Sharp is internationally recognised as both a compelling classical artist and a fearless pioneer, and in this concert takes the lead in Dvořák’s B Minor Cello Concerto.

The programme also includes the overture from Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro, Haydn’s Symphony no 101, subtitled ‘The Clock’, and the final two sections of Aaron Copland’s Rodeo, Saturday Night Waltz and Hoedown. Matthew Sharp will join the orchestra before the interval to play Antonín Dvořák’s Cello Concerto in B minor, one of the most performed cello concertos of all time and recorded by many of the world’s greatest cellists, including Jacqueline du Pré (who Sharp performed for at the age of 12) and Yo Yo Ma.

The Northern Chamber Orchestra is the North West’s oldest professional chamber orchestra, and has worked with Matthew Sharp for several years as its Associate Artist. In the days leading up to the concert, Sharp will work with local schools on an education project based on the Dvořák concerto.
