Macclesfield: NCO with Nicholas Ward, violin

Mozart Divertimento in B flat K137 | Borodin Nocturne | Haydn Violin concerto in G (with Nicholas Ward, violin) | Mendelssohn String symphony no 12 in G minor

Tickets: £22 stalls, £20 gallery, £15 online

Our artistic director and leader, Nicholas Ward, leads the NCO in Haydn’s fourth violin concerto. The first movement is smooth, and plaintive, in sonata form, with concise phrases and ornate embellishments. This is followed by an aria-like middle movement, which weaves between major and minor keys. This is followed by a high-spirited sonata-rondo. The last movement, perhaps the most Haydnesque of all three movements, closely follows the galloping patterns and embellishments used by C. P. E. Bach in his music.
