Concert highlights
- When admiration becomes music
Arensky took a melody by his friend and teacher Tchaikovsky and turned it into a set of variations as a musical tribute. - A rare spotlight for the French horn
Glazunov’s gently flowing Idyll puts the horn at the heart of the music, revealing the young composer’s particular affection for the instrument. - Stravinsky, but in a different world
Written after Stravinsky had settled in Los Angeles, the Concerto in D combines gritty energy with moments of elegance and lyricism — all using strings alone. - A musical souvenir of Florence
Tchaikovsky’s Souvenir de Florence captures happy memories of his time in Italy in music that is rich, energetic and full of sweeping melody.
