Review Excerpts

In this full-length The Soldier's Tale (the English translation by Michael Flanders and Kitty Black), the actors have the full measure of their parts. In general, it is a very natural balance that welds the years and miles between the separately recorded actors and musicians into a reasonably convincing illusion of a single-stage whole..The generous bonus here is Stravinsky's modernized 'Brandenburg Concerto', Dumbarton Oaks

Classical Good CD Guide 2001

.a dazzling new recording of The Soldier's Tale - not the usual suite, but the scintillating tour de force of music theatre, the Swiss poet CF Ramuz. Everything about the performance is brilliantly right.incisive instrumental playing, with Nicholas Ward offering a colourful feast of sounds in the all important violin part. The Northern Chamber Orchestra's playing of the Dumbarton Oaks Concerto, too, finds a nice balance between crispness and elegance.

Malcolm Hayes Voted Record of the Month.
