The penultimate concert in the Macclesfield season features principal soloists from the NCO.
Beethoven String Quintet in C Opus 29
Mozart Oboe Quartet
Brahms Sextet in G Opus 36
Mozart’s sparkling Quartet, which beautifully explores the oboe’s personality, has a buoyant quality, briefly off-set by its plaintive Adagio. The Brahms’ Sextet is a real delight, featuring wonderful melodies and a gorgeous, virtuosic interplay of strings. This is the first time NCO has ever played Beethoven’s Quintet – a fascinating, mature work. The finale, nicknamed ‘the storm’, is surprisingly interrupted by an old-fashioned minuet!
