The Northern Chamber Orchestra conclude Education project with Accent Music Hub, Warrington

Our recent Education project, bringing together the NCO, Accent Music Education Hub and schools across Warrington, was a huge success. Led by our principal double bass Jamie Manson, and presented by our Artist in Association Matthew Sharp, we spent several months visiting the participating schools, working on compositions, interpretive dance and visual arts responses to Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring. The results, including a brand new composition, were presented at the prestigious Parr Hall in Warrington in July.

Janice Pounds, Music Education Commissioner at Accent MEH said “The Making Music Visual Project was one of the highlights of my career – an excellent example of creative collaboration between education and the Northern Chamber Orchestra. Accent MEH congratulates all colleagues
and students who worked so hard to make this project such a success and we look forward to sharing this work at a local and regional level.”

NCO General Manager Charlie Rowley said “I have to confess I didn’t really know what to expect when I was invited to the Making Music Visual final performance. In 30 years of working in the arts I’ve attended a lot of schools work, but this genuinely took it to another level. The digital painting synced to the music, the sheer number and discipline of the dancers, the pupil’s compositions weaved into a new work – I was blown away. Congratulations to Accent Music Education Hub for conceiving of a project of this scale and ambition. And congratulations to the all the participating pupils for rising to it. Stirring, stirring stuff.”

We would like to thank ForViva for their generous support of this project. For further information about financially supporting our Education and Outreach work, please contact Charlie Rowley on 0161 2472220 / charlie@ncorch.co.uk or visit www.ncorch.co.uk/supportus/corporate-support.
