Education C
Versatile and flexible: these are two major strengths of the NCO's Learning and Developing work. Tailor made projects to suit any given criteria can be catered for. The Learning and Development Team is experienced in the art of composition, coaching, special needs, Primary Key Stage 1 & 2 and Secondary Key Stage 3 and beyond, leading on to adult education.
The Learning and Development Team is currently working alongside the Manchester Metropolitain University Faculty of Education in Manchester, offering vital support to the syllabus and creating a positive collaboration between both organisations.
What we can offer:
- One off introductory workshops: involving two musicians delivering a demonstration of the science and sound of instruments via a short concert. Interactive team-building and warm-up games based around musical skills, culminating in a creative piece with percussion instruments.
- Tailor-made projects: to suit individual schools and to be centred around any given theme, Key Stage 1 & 2, or longer sustainable projects involving several schools culminating in a concert.
- Key Stage 4 composition project: involving resident composer James Manson and up to five musicians working with students to produce a piece of music for a 'special event' or on a 'ground bass'; workshop on how to write for the instruments and a recording of their pieces. Aimed at GCSE and AS/A2 level composition.

- Workshops linked to an NCO concert: pupils learn about a piece in the programme and produce their own version, performing it in the concert with the NCO.
- Early years workshops: involving music and movement. Using the Dalcroze (eurhythmics) method, a small ensemble play live music whilst the children learn set movements and songs.
- Coaching workshops: small ensembles - strings / brass / woodwind groups and orchestras receive expert help and guidance from NCO principal players.
Current Projects
